Peter Allen

Presentation: Business Torque® …An assessment tool to improve decision-making practice in SMEs.
Bio: Born in NZ, Peter has a Bachelor of Commerce and is a member of NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and Institute of Directors NZ.
Peter’s career began in his family’s international trading businesses, working in accounting, sales, and management positions.
In 1987 he founded Peter H Allen Ltd Accountants, growing the practice to service the needs of many hundreds of family-owned businesses, representing a wide industry spectrum.
Through working closely with the clients and 4,500 client interviews, Peter has gained a deep understanding of the issues and challenges specific to SMEs, and how to resolve them. He found that in most instances, poor decision-making and governance practices were at the core of client’s problems.
Peter founded Business Torque Systems Ltd in 2001, developing a number of unique systems and SME-tailored boardroom practices to enable SME-owners to improve the quality and consistency of their decision-making. These systems proved successful, with clients achieving an average 257% increase in net profit to date.
At the heart of Peter’s systems is the Business Torque® Report, a unique capability assessment and decision-making improvement resource. Peter continues to work with SME clients, with positive results. He makes his systems available for others to use with their clients.

Alan Brown
Organisation: Edith Cowan University, Australia
Presentation: Meeting the challenges in sustaining business excellence.
Bio: Professor Alan Brown is from the School of Management, Edith Cowan University, Australia and he has held senior leadership positions in the Faculty of Business at ECU. He was President of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management in 2006 and is now a Life Fellow. He has substantial teaching and research experience in quality management, human resource management and small business management. His research has been published in many international journals including; the International Journal of Small Business, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources, Total Quality Management, and Quality Management Journal and presented at numerous conferences. He has undertaken training and consulting activities with major Australian public and private sector organizations.
Professor Brown has presented at numerous international and national academic and professional conferences, including keynote addresses.

Barry Coleman
Organisation: DORIC Group, Australia
Presentation: Achieving Business Excellence and Sustaining the Transformation.
Bio: Barry Coleman was an early adopter of Quality and Business Excellence principles and practices in Australia. He was a foundation director of the Total Quality Management Institute in 1986 and he has been involved with the Australian Business Excellence Awards since they were launched in October 1987.
Barry was previously the CEO of the Australian Quality Council which managed the Awards. They are now owned and managed by SAI Global.
Barry is a lead evaluator for the Awards and is a member of the judging panel. Over the years he has helped many countries develop their national Business Excellence Awards process.
Barry has developed a rare range of skills through his hands on experience and leadership with the implementation of Business Excellence Strategies in virtually every market sector.
Under its Chairman Harry Xydas DORIC has become a highly admired construction company in Western Australia and has achieved rapid growth. DORIC has been recognised with construction industry awards and Australian Business Excellence Awards. As an Advisory Director Barry is committed to working with the Board and Management to ensure that the “transformation is sustained” through leadership which captures the hearts and minds of DORIC’s people and its stakeholders.

Jiao Genqiang

Bio: Mr. Jiao Genqiang is the first Deputy Secretary General of China Association for Quality in Beijing, China. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Nankai University in Tianjin, China. Phil Ker
Organisation: Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand
Presentation: Striving for world class education performance: business excellence at Otago Polytechnic.
Bio: Phil Ker has a broad range of experience from a tertiary education context, including his current role as CEO of Otago Polytechnic. He has held academic roles as a lecturer in business, a staff developer and a tutor trainer in the polytechnic sector; and management and executive management roles in student services, human resources and facilities management. He is also a past president and life member of the Association of Staff in Tertiary Education.
Phil has special interests, including a research interest, in tertiary teacher appraisal and development and in quality teaching and learning, the latter viewed from an holistic perspective. He also has a broad experience in, and a clarity of understanding of governance vis a vis management, and is also currently a director of TANZ (Tertiary Accord of New Zealand) and Te Tapuae o Rehua.

Grant Regan

Presentation: Making Quality and Business Excellence Happen: A Research Working Paper Review.
Bio: Grant is a life-long professional student and coach of Business Excellence and Leading Organizational Change. His recent 8 year academic research and dissertation studied 2015 organizational change agents identifying 155 common change management techniques. His next 2 year research discovered that only 72 of these were effective in creating organizational change. The goal of this research was to accumulate successful case studies, share these with other change leaders, and encourage them to do the same. His current research is a 4 year study of business excellence promotion techniques. His focus is OD, Strategic Planning, OB, Human Technology, Innovation, Effective Change Management, and Leading Organizational Change. Grant is a Registered Organizational Development Professional (ODI) and member of the 2010 EFQM Model of Business Excellence UAE Elite Team.

Bio: Since 1984, Dawn Ringrose has consulted to management in areas that positively contribute to organizational performance. Dana Cumin
Organisation: ICL Business School, New Zealand
Presentation: Managerial skills and competencies in NZ organizations: a cause for concern.
Bio: Dana Cumin lectures at ICL Business School, designing and teaching leadership, management, and innovation courses. She has an M.Com (first class honours) in Management & International Business from the University of Auckland. Her focus of study was collaborative innovation and, from this work, she had a paper accepted for publication in the 2012 Business & Economics International (B&EI) Anthology. Dana presented the paper at the 2012 B&EI conference where she was also invited to chair a session on “Production, Regulation & Information Technology”. She also provides research and advisory services on issues related to best business practice in the public and private sectors, governance issues, and strategic alliance for innovation.

Sue Gordon
Organisation: Land Information New Zealand, New Zealand
Presentation: Developing Business Capability.
Bio: Sue Gordon is General Manager Strategic Development and Support at Land Information New Zealand. In this role Sue has responsibility for a range of corporate functions, and the New Zealand Geospatial Office where she leads work to promote the New Zealand Geospatial Strategy. Sue is also involved in cross-government work in the natural resources sector.
A key priority for Sue is supporting the development of a national spatial data infrastructure framework for New Zealand by promoting the economic, social and policy gains that will result from better connecting New Zealand’s location-based information.
Sue joined LINZ in 2009 from the Ministry of Economic Development, where she was the Deputy Secretary of Organisational Development and Support for six years.
Previously, she held organisational development roles in Fonterra, and led the organisational development practice area at Sheffield. Sue has also held roles in the Ministry of Health, Housing New Zealand, and the Ministry of Defence.
Sue has an honours degree in Political Studies from the University of Otago and an LLB from Victoria University.

Brent Hawkins

Peter Kerridge

Bio: Peter Kerridge is the founding partner of Kerridge & Partners, a consulting firm that serves leading businesses and governmental organisations in its homebase of New Zealand and also overseas in North America, the Middle East, Australia and Asia. It has consistently outperformed the market on its growth journey over the last seven years. It has collected a number of awards on the journey, including a Silver National Business Excellence Award and a Deloitte Fast 50 Award.
With over a decade in leadership consulting, Peter has also been a guest lecturer to MBA classes and a conference speaker on how organisations achieve excellence. He is a trained company director and long time member of the Institute of Directors. He holds a Masters Degree from Cambridge University.
Peter joined the management development programme with ICI in the UK, before embarking on an international career that took him via Africa and South America to New Zealand where he progressed to the executive team of a major utility, working on large scale cross-functional business improvement projects.
In keeping with the vision of the business to make a difference to executive search consulting worldwide, Peter is a Council member for the Asia Pacific Region of the international body, the Association of Executive Consultants and served as a member of their global Board of directors until December 2011.
He is also an Advisory Trustee of Leadership New Zealand, an organisation set up to focus on developing and enhancing the quality of New Zealand’s future leaders. In addition he is a Director of Business Excellence Architects Limited.

Gilbert Llovit
Organisation: Bicol University, Philippines
Presentation: Academe’s Journey to Total Quality Management: Bicol University’s ISO 9001 Experience.
Bio: Born in Albay, Philippines, Gilbert is the Technical Adviser (pro bono) of the QMS establishment and implementation of Bicol University in Legazpi City touted as the first university in the Philippines to have institutional certification to ISO 9001: 2008.
He has more than a decade of experience in Quality and Environmental Management Systems from cement and mining firms. He has previously taught in Bicol University on local governance, quality and productivity. He is also teaching at the University of the Philippines. He also reviewed international standards and labeling.
Gilbert has recently founded his business, GML Review and Consultancy to cater to quality reviews on the Career Executive Service Officer (CESO) and consultancy to ISO 9001: 2008 and IS0 14001: 2004.
In 2009, Gilbert has presented his paper in the International Convention on Quality Control Circles.
Gilbert holds Master of Public Management from the University of the Philippines Open University and has taken online courses on Knowledge Management, UNPAN, UNDESA and Balanced Scorecard from the Asian Productivity Organization. Gilbert is 32.

Keith Phillips

Bio: Keith Phillips is a leader in the use of IT based assessment systems for risk mitigation and performance improvement of organisations. He has led programs to design and develop performance improvement systems for small and large business and not for profits using a variety of models derived from Malcolm Baldrige, EFQM, Lean, ISO and global thought leaders. He has worked in Europe, USA, Canada, SE Asia and the Pacific.
Keith has a unique background in Business and Information Technology. He is a Business Graduate who has held Senior Management positions with Unilever, Gillette and Apple spanning Africa, UK and USA. Keith joined Apple UK as Marketing and then Managing Director where Apple UK became “country of the year” as the fastest growing subsidiary. Keith was promoted to a senior executive position in Apple USA where he managed the Multimedia lab which generated some of the early thinking of today’s new products. In Apple he was able to exercise his passion for using technology for transformational change.
For the last 7 years, Keith has focused on his own company, QLBS.com, which uses cloud based diagnostic IT tools for organizational governance and performance improvement. His work is seen as some of the most advanced organisational performance improvement work and a roadmap for how the industry will work in the future.

Russell Veitch

Bio: Russell Veitch is a recognised quality management professional with extensive proven managerial experience. Bio: As of September 2011, Dale is President of Global Leadership and Benchmarking Associates (GLBA), a consulting firm focused on delivering performance excellence and global benchmarking management services to both the public and private sectors. From 2000-2011, Dale was Senior Executive Officer and Deputy Executive Director for the Florida Department of Revenue. His primary role was serving as the agency’s chief business process and benchmarking leadership officer, with an oversight responsibility for integrating all programs, within the context of the internationally proven Baldrige Business Performance Excellence management framework.
Prior to the public sector, Dale worked for approximately 20 years in the private sector at Control Data Corporation, General Mills, and Xerox Corporation, in various Marketing, Information Systems, and Consulting management capacities. He was instrumental in generating $50 million in Sales Revenue for an 8,000 employee division for customers in both Fortune 500 firms and large civilian and Department of Defense agencies.
